5 Tips to Help You Avoid a July 4th DUI Arrest

June 30, 2015

The July 4th holiday weekend is just around the corner, and for many, this means festive BBQs, parties and other celebrations.

We at the Griffin Law Firm wish you the best over this holiday weekend, and we want to remind you that law enforcement officials will be out in droves this weekend, looking to turn up the heat on impaired drivers.

So, to help you keep your celebrations fun – and not have them end in a DUI arrest, below are some tips to keep in mind this weekend (and whenever you may be celebrating an occasion with alcohol).

Here’s How to Avoid a DUI Arrest this Holiday Weekend…

  1. These tips can help you avoid being arrested for a DUI over the holiday weekend, a Boulder & Denver DUI attorney explains. Contact us, however, if you need the best DUI defense ASAP.

Find a friend to be your sober driver – Do you have friends attending the same party you’re planning to go to? If so, try to hitch a ride with them or their sober driver.

  2. Pay someone to be your sober driver – If you can’t get a ride with a sober friend, consider taking a taxi to/from your party. You may even want to consider using public transportation (if it’s running; you’ll need to check this ahead of time) or pooling funds with friends to hire a driving service (as you may not be the only one in need of a sober ride).
  3. Arrange to stay at a friend’s house – If arranging sober transportation to/from a July 4th party isn’t going anywhere, ask your friend who’s hosting the party (or a friend who lives close to the party) if you can stay at his or her place for the evening. Even if you end up having to crash on a couch or the floor, it’s better than waking up in jail after a DUI arrest.
  4. Get a hotel room – When your plans to stay with a friend don’t work out, consider making plans to stay at a motel or hotel near the party.

Although this may be a bit out of your budget and less convenient than spending the night at home, it is a far better solution than getting behind the wheel when impaired and running the risk of being arrested for DUI. Plus, getting a hotel room will cost WAY less than the $10,000 (or so) that DUIs can cost you.

  5. Keep the July 4th party at home – When any of the above options don’t seem to be working out, it may be wise to simply change up your plans and not put yourself in a situation where you may be stranded drunk somewhere.

So, instead, plan to host a July 4th gathering at your home. While it may be less spectacular than your previous plans, you can still have a great time, especially considering that this can give you peace of mind that you won’t be running the risk of getting a DUI this July 4th.
